About Us
Fauquier HFH works in partnership with the community and people in need to build and renovate homes to provide simple, decent, affordable housing.
Habitat is a "hand-up" not a handout. Fauquier Habitat sells the homes to families at cost with no-interest mortgages to keep the monthly payments affordable for the homeowner. Those mortgage payments go back into a revolving fund for Fauquier Habitat that is used to build more houses. Our dedicated volunteers contribute their labor to reduce the cost to build. National sponsors and local businesses provide generous support, as well. Our partner families invest hundreds of hours of labor known as "sweat equity" into building their homes and the homes of others.
VOLUNTEERS:
Volunteers are the heart and soul of Fauquier Habitat. Without their time, talents, and dedication, we could not fight so hard to put an end to poverty housing in our community. Our volunteers come from all walks of life; men, women, teens, retirees, friends, and parents from local churches, businesses, schools, and clubs. Some volunteers choose to become involved with building, and we have offered free training workshops over the years in different areas of construction. Construction experience is absolutely not necessary. Volunteers may choose to join a committee such as Fundraising or Partnership. Some donate materials, land or services while others want to make lunches and snacks for the crews on build days. The sky is the limit and we always encourage new ideas on how best to use time while working to improve the lives of our neighbors.
We try very hard to accommodate everyone but, depending on the phase of construction or number of homes in progress, we may have limited hands-on building opportunities. Please remember that there are many other ways to help. Check out our calendar by clicking on the icon at the upper right of the homepage. You will be able to view all upcoming events, the build schedule and other opportunities to participate in this most worthwhile effort. To join our e-mail list, please contact Sidney Atwell, Administrative Assistant, at sydney@fauquierhabitat.org, or call 540-341-4952.
Feel free to download the Volunteer Application and Interests form under the "Forms" tab, and either e-mail, fax, or mail it to our office.
