Committees

Fauquier Habitat for Humanity is an organization that is run on volunteer power. Committees are the backbone of the organization, providing support to specific areas of the affiliate. Most committees are chaired by a Board Member and comprised of volunteers. Below is a list of committees currently working within Fauquier Habitat for Humanity. If you are interested in joining a committee, please contact us.

Finance and Administration (Chaired by Dana Pappas, Treasurer)
This committee oversees the finance and day-to-day function of the affiliate office. The Executive Director reports to the Board and to the Finance and Administration Committee. The members of the Finance and Administration Committee are responsible for the financial well-being of the organization. This committee is made up of Board Members.

Building Committee (Chairperson needed)
The Building Committee is responsible for facilitating the building program as set by the Board of Directors. With the assistance of the Construction Manager, the committee keeps the building program on track. The committee is made up of volunteers with various aspects of building experience. The committee meets once a month on the first Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.

Church Relations Committee (Chaired by Pastor Amanda Knouse)
This committee establishes and maintains strong relationships with local congregations, enlists their support for projects and promotes Fauquier Habitat for Humanity’s mission of making adequate shelter a matter of conscience and action in our community. Activities include public speaking and leading discussions of Habitat’s goals and activities, organizing a church committee and coordinating the participation of individual congregations. Monthly meeting to be determined.

Development Committee  (Chairperson needed)   The Development Committee covers two areas – first it is responsible for raising funds for our house sponsorship. We are continuously looking for new ideas and individuals who are interested in helping out or leading events and funding projects. This committee is also responsible for grant writing, solicitations, foundation requests and building relationships with the business community. Secondly, it is responsible for organizing and leading volunteer labor for build days, holding volunteer orientations and coordinating with the Building Committees. The committee may also organize special events such as volunteer appreciation days and training workshops. The committee proactively works to build better Habitat houses and to ensure all volunteers have the best possible Habitat experience. This committee meets once a month on the third Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.

Family Selection Committee (Chaired by Edda Berglund)
This committee is responsible for selecting homeowner families. Activities include recruiting prospective families, screening applications, interviewing applicants and their references, visiting their current home and recommending applicants for approval by the Board of Directors. Meets the second Thursday of each month.

Family Partnership Committee (Chaired by Bob Towle & Priscilla Chamblee)
This committee works directly with families after they have been selected to partner with Fauquier Habitat for Humanity. Family Partnership is the principal point of contact with current and prospective homeowner families. The committee works to provide a mutual support system to facilitate the transition to home ownership, including educational opportunities in home ownership and maintenance, family finance and community resources. This is our most challenging and rewarding committee. Many of our committee members maintain close family-like relationships with their partners throughout their entire experience as Habitat homeowners. Partnership meets once a month.

Site Selection Committee (Chairperson needed)
The Site Selection Committee has the responsibility for locating, evaluating and recommending to the Board for purchase properties appropriate to Fauquier Habitat’s mission and objectives. The committee works in close cooperation with the Building Committee to ensure the suitability of property prior to acquisition. Experience with land acquisition is helpful but not required. Meets as required.

Women Build (Chaired by Kelp Armstrong)
Women Build works to recruit, empower and train women to build simple, decent and affordable homes. Women Build worksites provides a unique opportunity to learn construction skills and to build leadership and teamwork skills. If you are not interested in building, that’s ok! We have many other needs that can be filled. Fauquier Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build invites you to make friends and memories that will last a lifetime while making a lasting change in our community. This committee meets the first Thursday of every month.

ReStore Steering Committee (Chaired by Bob Towle)
