We are pleased to introduce Erin and Jason Haley who will become Fauquier Habitat’s 55th homeowners!
This young couple has been renting a house on one of Rappahannock County’s farms since being married at St. Peter Catholic Church in Washington, Virginia, in 2011.
Erin works for Martin’s Grocery Store in Front Royal offering customers Uscan support, having transferred from West Virginia where she began working after high school. For many years she worked two jobs, for Martin’s and as a teacher’s assistant for the Front Royal Methodist Church—a position she earned by volunteering at the church’s child center for several years. Erin also obtained a HANDS certificate from JMU in early childhood development.
Jason serves Company 1 Volunteer Fire Department in Washington, Virginia, and recently completed an EMS course. He is certified to drive firehouse equipment and can often be seen driving the ambulance and brush truck—a career that seems a natural fit for a young man who worked his way up from a Tiger Cub to an Eagle Scout!
As members of St. Peter’s Church, Erin helps with Second-Sunday socials on Saturday evenings and Jason has supported fundraising activities for the Knights of Columbus by making phone solicitations for silent auctions and picking up the donations.
“This home is a dream come true for us,” said Jason, and you only have to look at Erin’s beaming face to know how much she agrees. There is one more member of the family who is excited–Shiloh, a Labrador-mix rescue to whom they gave a forever home.
Erin and Jason are now working on the 400 “sweat equity” hours they must complete to be able to be a Partner-Family. They volunteer at the ReStore and will help build their home to earn the hours.
More construction volunteers will be needed starting in September to complete the home. Please complete this application to get involved!
Fauquier Habitat for Humanity will hold a Community Meeting every Thursday at 5:00 p.m. at Willis Chapel United Methodist Church, 1804 Zachary Taylor Highway, Huntly, Virginia, to discuss the Habitat Home being built at 2650 Zachary Taylor Highway.
The meetings are open to the public—please attend for construction updates, volunteer opportunities and more. Call 540-341-4952 for more information.
